The Adventurer (1917)
Convict number 23, nicknamed The Eel, makes a daring escape from prison, taunting his incompetent pursuers. He heroically rescues a lovely girl, her mother, and a bothersome suitor from danger, though he nearly drowns in the process. After recuperating at Judge Brown's residence, he attends a high-society party where he finds himself vying for the attention of the enchanting Miss Brown against his rival. However, tension mounts as prison guards remain hot on his trail, threatening to disrupt his newfound freedom and romance.
