Evald Hermaküla (December 6, 1941 – May 16, 2000) was a prominent Estonian actor and director, celebrated for his contributions to the performing arts. Born in the village of Maardu within Jõelähtme Parish, Hermaküla pursued a degree in geology at the University of Tartu, graduating in 1965. That same year, he completed his training at the Vanemuine Theatre Studio in Tartu, marking the beginning of a vibrant career in theatre.

From 1962 onward, Hermaküla took on the role of an actor at the esteemed Vanemuine Theatre, eventually stepping into the position of stage director in 1969. His versatility allowed him to excel not only on stage but also in film and television, where he both directed and acted in various productions, leaving an indelible mark on Estonian cinema and theatre.

Tragically, Evald Hermaküla's life came to an untimely end when he committed suicide in Kadriorg Park, Tallinn, at the age of 58. His passing on May 16, 2000, left a void in the arts community. He was laid to rest in the Forest Cemetery in Tallinn. At the time of his death, he was married to actress Kaie Mihkelson, who mourned the loss of her talented husband and collaborator. Hermaküla's legacy continues to resonate within the Estonian cultural landscape.
