Geoffrey Everest Hinton, born on December 6, 1947, is a cognitive psychologist and computer scientist holding both British and Canadian citizenship. He is best known for his pioneering contributions to artificial neural networks. Since 2013, he has split his professional commitments between Google Brain and the University of Toronto. In 2017, he helped establish the Vector Institute in Toronto, where he serves as Chief Scientific Advisor.

Hinton's career has been defined by groundbreaking research in deep learning and neural computation. His work on backpropagation and Boltzmann machines laid essential groundwork for modern artificial intelligence. Among his notable achievements, he co-authored the influential 2012 paper on AlexNet, which demonstrated the power of deep convolutional neural networks and reshaped the field of computer vision. In 2018, he received the Turing Award alongside Yoshua Bengio and Yann LeCun for their conceptual and engineering breakthroughs that made deep neural networks a critical component of computing. Hinton has also been honored with the IEEE Frank Rosenblatt Award and is a Fellow of the Royal Society. His contributions continue to shape both academic research and industrial applications of machine learning worldwide.
