Francesco Bruni, originally from Livorno, Italy, embarked on his illustrious career in 1991 as a co-writer for the film "Condominio," directed by Felice Farina. His collaboration with renowned director Paolo Virzì began in 1994, during which he penned the screenplays for several acclaimed films, including "La bella vita," "Ferie d'agosto," "Ovosodo," "Baci e abbracci," "My Name Is Tanino," "Caterina va in città," "N (Io e Napoleone)," and "Tutta la vita davanti." From 1995 to 2003, Bruni also collaborated with Mimmo Calopresti, contributing to films such as "La seconda volta," "La parola amore esiste," "Preferisco il rumore del mare," and "La felicità non costa niente."

His diverse body of work includes contributions to projects with Franco Bernini ("Sotto la luna"), David Riondino ("Cuba libre - Velocipedi ai tropici"), and Francesca Comencini ("Le parole di mio padre"). Bruni also co-wrote "I Viceré," adapted from Federico De Roberto's novel, and worked on Spike Lee’s 2008 film "Miracle at St. Anna." In television, he adapted Andrea Camilleri’s stories for "Il commissario Montalbano" and Carlo Lucarelli’s works for "Il commissario De Luca." He additionally penned the TV film "Il tunnel della libertà."

Bruni made his directorial debut in 2011 with "Scialla!" at the Venice Film Festival, where it earned recognition with the award for narrative feature films. Alongside his screenwriting and directing, he teaches screenwriting at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome.
