She gained significant fame in Australia for her portrayal of Pepper Steiger in the long-running soap opera *Neighbours*, appearing in 100 episodes from 2006 to 2007.

Whelan made her transition to Hollywood with two notable projects. First, she starred in the ensemble comedy *Hollywood & Wine*, where she played an aspiring actress arriving in Tinseltown. Soon after, she secured a recurring role as Maya, a seductive medical student, in the ninth season of *Scrubs*, although the series was abruptly canceled. She subsequently collaborated with the Farrelly brothers in the comedy *Good to Shoot*, featuring a cast led by Jason Sudeikis and Owen Wilson, along with various appearances in short films and B-movies.

In 2013, Whelan's career gained momentum as she took on a six-episode role in the detective series *Franklin and Bash* and played a key part in the web series *Chosen*, alongside Milo Ventimiglia and Chad Michael Murray.
