Chu Chu Malave
Edwin Malave, popularly known as "Chu Chu Malave," was born on August 4, 1950, in New York City. He is recognized for his dual career as a professional boxer and an actor.
Malave gained significant attention when he secured the role of "Ramon Santos" in the pilot episode of the iconic ABC series *Barney Miller*, triumphing over Erik Estrada for the part. This early success led him to co-star in the short-lived NBC series *Chopper One* and to appear in the acclaimed film *Dog Day Afternoon*. His career continued to flourish as he starred alongside notable actors Don Murray and James Earl Jones in *Deadly Hero*. Following this, ABC called him back to Los Angeles to reshoot the *Barney Miller* pilot, marking a pivotal moment in his entertainment journey.
In 1975, Malave relocated to Los Angeles, where he built an extensive acting portfolio that included over 20 guest-starring and co-starring roles in various television series and pilots. His work also featured a notable appearance in the funeral scene of the 1981 film *S.O.B.*, directed by Blake Edwards. In 1978, he briefly returned to New York to star in the NBC soap opera *For Richer, For Poorer*. Throughout his career, Malave has left an indelible mark in both boxing and acting, showcasing his versatility and talent in multiple arenas.
