Joseph Curtis "Joe" Hennig is a prominent American professional wrestler, currently under contract with WWE, where he performs as Curtis Axel. As of now, he holds the title of Intercontinental Champion, marking his first reign with this prestigious belt. Hennig made his WWE debut in 2010, initially competing as Michael McGillicutty in the faction known as The Nexus. Prior to this, he honed his skills in the developmental territory, Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW), and showcased his talent during the second season of WWE NXT.

In 2011, Hennig achieved significant success by winning the WWE Tag Team Championship alongside David Otunga while part of The New Nexus. This victory solidified his status within the organization as a formidable competitor. In May 2013, he re-emerged on the main roster, adopting the ring name Curtis Axel, a homage to his legendary lineage—his father, "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig, and his grandfather, Larry "The Axe" Hennig. Axel's career has been further enhanced by the guidance of renowned manager Paul Heyman, who has helped elevate his profile in WWE. Hennig's combination of legacy, talent, and charisma continues to make him a standout performer within the wrestling world.
